AMHARIC

Why Study Amharic?

Amharic is the official language of Ethiopia with close to 30 million speakers.   It is also the second most-spoken Semitic language in the world after Arabic.

Foreign Language Requirements

Most students at Howard University have a foreign language requirement to graduate.  Depending on their major, students typically take between two to four semesters of a foreign language.  Enrolling in Amharic language courses at Howard will count towards the foreign language requirement.  The course sequence for the basic Amharic language courses is as follows:

Amharic I - (AMHR 001)

Amharic II - (AMHR 002)

Amharic III - (AMHR 003)

Amharic IV - (AMHR 004)

Amharic Independent Study - (AMHR 190)
